Supporting Juniper’s founder, Shant Madjarian, is someone who ensures that the company is reaching the business’s goals in terms of sales. Bouncing from a large volume of calls and emails, it takes a motivated and efficient person to lead the sales team. That person is Mel—who happens to be Shant’s wife. She’s known as the socialite of Juniper, venturing to all corners of the world giving product presentations, meeting with clients, hosting events, and being the life of the party.
WHAT’S YOUR ROLE AT JUNIPER?
After 11 years in sales from the tile industry, I joined the team as Juniper’s Sales Director. My responsibilities mainly revolve around ensuring that we strategically plan and maximize profit by executing long-term plans tailored to Juniper’s goals. That includes delivering impeccable customer assistance to outweigh stellar expectations. I also work mindfully with the design team so we can provide a cohesive service altogether. An added duty (and most important of all) is bringing our kittens daily and taking care of them in between work.
WHERE ARE YOU ORIGINALLY FROM?
I’m from Fort Worth, Texas. I now live in New York, which is also the home of our lighting design studio. You should make an appointment and come see our fixtures in person. I would love to show you around!
WHAT DO YOU LOVE ABOUT BEING JUNIPER’S SALES DIRECTOR?
My favorite part about Juniper is the diverse group of people I get to work with, including my colleagues and our clients. My job also requires me to travel on some occasions to meet with various industry leaders and designers, so that’s a really fun opportunity!
WHAT DO YOU LIKE TO DO OUTSIDE OF WORK?
I have a long list but those who know me best would say my interests are running and late night karaoke (but not at the same time).
WHERE DO YOU USUALLY HANG OUT?
Simple. It would just be in my private terrace in Carroll Gardens. I am a lucky gal!
TELL US ABOUT YOUR FAVORITE FIXTURE AND WHY.
I think that the M Lamp designed by David Irwin for Juniper is timeless. It is a reflection of Juniper’s ability to create something classic, functional, and fun. As Juniper’s first product to launch the business, it remains close to my heart.
