Featuring modern and luxurious Airstream accommodations at our unique properties in California, AutoCamp is inspired by the wanderlust of camping and the great American road trip.   AutoCamp's Yosemite location features a common clubhouse for guests to congregate. Surrounded by rich wood, concrete, and subtle black hardware is Juniper's contemporary lighting system. AutoCamp installed the THIN Multiples Dyad Vertical with 2 connected sections in Black Oxide finish to complement natural and industrial tones.   Nearby, the THIN Surface Mount Picture Light adorns large-format wall art to warm the space. The fixtures become a perfect minimalistic modern element to blend modern furniture and architecture to rustic camping lifestyles.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text]

THIN Modular Lighting System

Due to their magnetic connection, the THIN System's light segments are not hard-wired into the fixture, providing the freedom to rotate segments a full 360° after installation. This is ideal for adjusting direct and indirect lighting. THIN System hardware offers flexibility to continue lighting at extendable lengths. Endlessly connect segment upon segment for bordering rooms, hallways, and countertops.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width="1/2"][vc_btn title="Learn About the THIN Modular Lighting System" style="flat" shape="square" color="inverse" align="center" button_block="true" link="|title:THIN%20Modular%20Lighting%20System||"][/vc_column][vc_column width="1/2"][vc_btn title="Explore All Lighting" style="flat" shape="square" color="inverse" align="center" button_block="true" link="|title:Products||"][/vc_column][/vc_row]

5 Upcoming Lighting Trends for 2020

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]As a lighting manufacturer focused on advanced technology, precision-machining, and made-to-fit solutions, we’ve noticed a few lighting trends that have been gaining popularity recently.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image="19580" img_size="full" alignment="center"][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text]

1. Lighting Finishes

To start, new finishes have gained some momentum. Although brass is always a popular standard, we’ve noticed a rise in matte black, satin nickel, and polished finishes. Trends seem to be pushing more toward neutral tones to blend with a space’s design in a finish that shows the fixture’s quality. With changing finish trends, it’s helpful to be hands-on with the manufacturing process to adjust our finishes to the requests of our clients.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image="12660" img_size="full" alignment="center" onclick="custom_link" link=""][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text]

2. Lighting Shapes

Geometric shapes also seem to become a rising lighting trend. Designers and architects have gravitated toward creating shapes with light to bring a central focus to a space as a way to give a unique area of interest to the design. We’ve seen our THIN Primaries Collection used over countertops, dining spaces, and lighting installations in lobby areas.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image="8991" img_size="full" alignment="center" onclick="custom_link" link=""][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text]

3. Custom Light Fixtures

More and more, clients have requests for custom lighting solutions to create special design elements particularly in hospitality spaces when designers want to bring a unique personality to the space. Our engineers have designed more made-to-fit pieces for clients recently as a solution to install something completely unique.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image="3389" img_size="full" alignment="center" onclick="custom_link" link=""][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text]

4. Modern Office Design

Fixtures that resolve existing conditions have also been on the rise, particularly in office spaces as a direct reflection of the modern workplace leaning more toward hospitality design aesthetics. As designers and architects bring in a new level of comfort and warmth to new office space designs, cold fluorescents are being replaced by wellness-focused and environmentally-friendly LED solutions. Our Metropolis Wall to Wall System has grown in popularity as clients recognize its thoughtfully-designed elements with high-output modules and custom mounting options to work with existing conditions. The system is made to fit a space’s dimensions while producing enough light output for efficient office lighting.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image="17820" img_size="full" alignment="center" onclick="custom_link" link=""][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text]

5. Wireless Dimming

On the technology side of lighting, Juniper has seen more requests for wireless dimming capabilities in residential spaces specifically. This is pretty common in commercial spaces to power all fixtures together easily at a larger scale, but homeowners have caught onto the convenience of pairing their lighting with wireless remotes, phones, tablets, smart home devices, and voice-activated assistants.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Juniper works with architects and designers to support these lighting trends and rising requests through flexible lighting systems that can easily adjust to the evolving market. Elle Decorations Features Contemporary Lighting & Galerie 46 in St. Petersburg

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Decent furniture is a worthy environment, according to Galerie 46, one of Juniper's top retailer partners. Several years ago, the company decorated Gubi furniture with a Milanese palazzo as part of a temporary exhibition, and now decided to repeat the successful experience with the Russian Museum. The result of this collaboration was a project where furniture from iconic designer brands from the Galerie 46 showroom chain was captured by photographer Sergei Ananyev in the interiors of the legendary Marble Palace in St. Petersburg. The collaboration was recently featured in Elle Decoration.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width="1/2"][vc_single_image image="19680" img_size="full" onclick="custom_link" link=""][/vc_column][vc_column width="1/2"][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text]Juniper's THIN Task Lamp contributes to this installation that blends modernized furniture and lighting to classic and timeless architecture. Chioco Design Installs Modern Lighting

Jamie Chioco of Chioco Design worked with E+E Fitness to design a modern fitness center. The design features Chioco's signature medium-toned wooden slots to showcase a graphic E+E logo in its negative space beside the center's front desk. Themes of concrete and warm wood tones, and white elements are used to promote a clean aesthetic without feeling cold. Its modern design is carried into the main center and into the locker rooms, where Juniper lighting is installed.
"Our client's goal was to create a fitness environment that would foster a sense of community. We designed common spaces that encouraged gathering before and after classes that provided a sense of casual comfort through warm, natural materials, furnishings and lighting. We particularly liked the simplicity and function of Juniper THIN Surface Mount fixtures at the vanities in the locker rooms." Jamie Chioco, Chioco Design
Juniper's THIN Surface Mount Vanity Lights are mounted above a large mirror and in between two adjacent mirrors. The THIN Surface Mount is an ultra-thin brass wall-mounted light fixture. The 1/2-inch profile dimmable LED light segments rotate and fit any mirror size with customizable standoffs and lengths.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width="1/2"][vc_btn title="Browse the THIN Surface Mount Vanity Light" style="flat" shape="square" color="inverse" align="center" button_block="true" link="|title:THIN%20Surface%20Mount%20Vanity%20Light||"][/vc_column][vc_column width="1/2"][vc_btn title="Discover More Lighting Projects" style="flat" shape="square" color="inverse" align="center" button_block="true" link="|title:THIN%20Surface%20Mount%20Vanity%20Light||"][/vc_column][/vc_row]

Is there a project that keeps you up at night?

It seems like it is everything added together that keeps me up at night. Which project specifically probably depends on the day. My work at Oculus is pretty consuming, and I am always thinking about new ideas for Juniper and Visual Comfort. I also tend to continually add to the ever-growing backlog of personal projects I’ll likely never get to.

How does your interest in design and function intersect with your work on tech gear?

I guess I am interested in almost every type of problem? I feel like they might inform each other a bit. Lighting design is often driven only by the designer, and the lights become artistic statements, while complex consumer electronics can often look like a literal illustration of constraints and requirements. In contrast to these outcomes, the simple and modular nature of the Juniper THIN line is more like a toolkit for architects and designers to use for their vision, while details like the stretch fabric canopy on the interior of the Oculus Rift bring a level of unexpected delight.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width="1/2"][vc_single_image image="6124" img_size="full" alignment="center" onclick="custom_link" link=""][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][vc_column width="1/2"][vc_column_text]

About the THIN Chandelier

The THIN Chandelier is an intriguing, whimsical light fixture with appendages reminiscent of spider legs that leave an impression upon installation. It has 12 hinged arms, each one precisely machined in solid brass, that contract and extend to discover infinite geometric shapes and patterns. Form an arachnid-like light fixture or collapse its linear tubings to mold a concaved THIN Chandelier, enforcing a flexible architecture in any modern space.   With slender aircraft cables that rid of obstruction, the THIN Chandelier appears to suspend magically and weightlessly. Its LED lamping is designed to dim, allowing the THIN Chandelier to transform from an exciting light fixture into a more intimate source of illumination.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width="1/2"][vc_btn title="Browse the THIN Chandelier" style="flat" shape="square" color="inverse" align="center" button_block="true" link="|||"][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][vc_column width="1/2"][vc_btn title="Read More Press Features" style="flat" shape="square" color="inverse" align="center" button_block="true" link="|||"][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row]

FAQ: Choosing Modern Under-Cabinet Lighting

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Every kitchen design is different, and with that comes custom cabinetry, dimensions, materials, and countertops to consider. When choosing your modern under-cabinet lighting, it’s important to look for three things: minimal design, customizable lighting features, and modularity. Following these steps will make sure you choose the right lighting for your modern kitchen space.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_single_image image="13615" img_size="full" alignment="center" onclick="custom_link" link=""][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text]

1. Minimal Design

Under-cabinet lighting is used to accent the kitchen (wait for it) under your cabinets. Usually, lighting is either inset or sits very close to the bottom of your cabinetry and shines light down toward the countertops below. The design of this lighting should be low-profile as to not distract from other show stopping elements of your modern kitchen’s design. By using high-quality materials in a low profile, the lighting will accent the luxury aesthetic without becoming demanding in the space. We recommend choosing lighting that stands off from the cabinet under 2 inches and avoiding chunky lighting installations.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_single_image image="6065" img_size="full" alignment="center" onclick="custom_link" link=""][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text]

2. Customizable Lighting Features

Since every kitchen is unique, it’s important to choose lighting that is customizable to your space. To match the lighting’s color temperature to the rest of your space, choose a lighting system that has a variety of options. Usually, kitchens are equipped with color temperatures around 3000K-3500K. This white light is perfect for preparing food in a functional and clean space, while maintaining a small amount of amber hue for a comforting aesthetic. Another thing to consider is lens finishes of your linear LED lighting, specifically frosted or clear. Clear lenses help direct lighting for a more narrow beam of light. This is helpful in task areas, such as food-prep locations. However, with glossy countertops, you may face glare issues of the lighting reflecting too harshly. We recommend clear lenses for matte or semi-matte finished countertops. When it comes to glossy countertops, a frosted lens, although more diffused with a wider beam angle, still gives off the same brightness and would resolve the issue of glare.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_single_image image="16507" img_size="full" alignment="center" onclick="custom_link" link=""][vc_column_text]

Learn more about this project.

3. Modularity

As dimensions change and cabinetry adjusts to your space, so should your lighting. Choose lighting that’s extendable and adjustable. With the ability to add and subtract length, you’ll find comfort in knowing that your cabinetry can be a custom dimension and you’ll still have the correct proportions of lighting.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width="1/2"][vc_single_image image="6234" img_size="full" onclick="custom_link" link=""][/vc_column][vc_column width="1/2"][vc_column_text]

Modern Under-Cabinet Lighting

With its ½-inch diameter profile, the THIN Surface Mount Under-Cabinet Light offers minimal design with plenty of light output. Standoff options include 1.75”, and 3.5” for a low-profile lighting solution. The THIN System offers customizable options such as color temperature, lens finish, length, and the ability to join LED light segments together for custom dimensions. Juniper is able to provide corner pieces for uniquely shaped runs. The THIN Surface Mount Under-Cabinet Light installs easily to any material and LED light segments magnetically snap into mounting hardware. Since magnetic connections are made instead of hardwiring the light segments in place, segments can freely rotate a full 360° to aim lighting exactly where its needed and adjust as you use it. A variety of dimming options are available to work with wireless dimmers, or other lighting systems.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width="1/2"][vc_btn title="Browse the THIN Surface Mount Under-Cabinet Light" style="flat" shape="square" color="inverse" align="center" button_block="true" link="|title:THIN%20Surface%20Mount%20Display%20Light||"][/vc_column][vc_column width="1/2"][vc_btn title="Read More Articles" style="flat" shape="square" color="inverse" align="center" button_block="true" link="|title:THIN%20Surface%20Mount%20Display%20Light||"][/vc_column][/vc_row]

LightNOW Examines the THIN Solids Collection

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]LightNOW has been providing news and opinion to the lighting industry for nearly eight years. Craig DiLouie, a veteran industry journalist, had featured the new THIN Solids Collection in the popular lighting blog and newsletter platform to spread the news about our newest lighting addition.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_single_image image="17295" img_size="full"][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text]Our THIN Solids Collection offers a group of lighting designs featuring configurations such as a Tetrahedron, Cube, and Diamond, to represent the Platonic Solids. Solid brass connectors join ½-inch diameter light tubes to create intricate and symmetrical three-dimensional shapes for impactful pendant installations or grand chandeliers using clusters of the THIN Solids.   The product of collaboration with industrial designer Peter Bristol (who daylights as head of industrial design at Facebook), the THIN System is based on simple and minimal lines that magnetically snap into place. Light segments freely rotate to customize illumination properties. [/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_single_image image="18397" img_size="full"][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text]The THIN System began with the THIN Task Lamp as a solution for adjustable task lighting in the most compact silhouette possible. With this technology, an entire system was born. From a single line, the collection expanded into prisms, geometric shapes, and now extends into the third dimension. Lengths can be customized, as well as many other features of the design, to accommodate hospitality, commercial, and residential spaces for unique installations.

The THIN light was the first incarnation and it has since taken on a life of its own. I don’t really feel ownership over it. It’s not my lamp, it’s not even Juniper’s anymore, it belongs to the people. Architects and designers can use it to do almost anything they want, it’s like a LEGO set for adults. -Peter Bristol
