[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Although Juniper is a worldwide luxury lighting brand, all efforts are firmly rooted in our New York office. WHAT’S YOUR ROLE AT JUNIPER?

I am Juniper’s California Architectural and Design Sales Representative. I have a background in design for over 10 years, primarily as a residential and workplace interior designer. Right now, I am mastering California’s designers who are the future of residential, hospitality, and commercial spaces.

WHERE ARE YOU ORIGINALLY FROM?

Just around the area in Brooklyn, New York. However, I relocated to California recently to shed light on our fixtures and our clients in the West Coast.

WHAT ARE YOUR INTERESTS OUTSIDE OF WORK?

I am a certified Makeup Artist and I treat this as another opportunity for me to flex my creative muscles. I also took a few lessons on surfing prior to moving, so I look forward to becoming a skilled surfer!

Simple. Rockaway Beach Surf Club and Brooklyn Heights Promenade.

WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE JUNIPER LIGHTING FIXTURE?

I adore the THIN Primaries Hexagon. It is a shape I am constantly drawn to as a designer, and I am a big fan of mid-century design aesthetics. I also love that it belongs to the THIN System, which allows endless creativity to showcase one’s personal style.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width="1/3"][vc_btn title="Discover What The Press Says" style="flat" shape="square" color="inverse" align="center" button_block="true" link="url:http%3A%2F%2Fwww.juniper-design.com%2Fpress%2F|||"][/vc_column][vc_column width="1/3"][vc_btn title="Reach Out To Our Sales Team" style="flat" shape="square" color="inverse" align="center" button_block="true" link="url:http%3A%2F%2Fwww.juniper-design.com%2Fcustomer-service%2F|||"][/vc_column][vc_column width="1/3"][vc_btn title="Meet The Team" style="flat" shape="square" color="inverse" align="center" button_block="true" link="url:http%3A%2F%2Fwww.juniper-design.com%2Fmeet-the-team%2F|||"][/vc_column][/vc_row]

Team Juniper Takes a Field Trip to Dia:Beacon

May
31

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]This past week, Juniper's team took a day trip to break the daily routine. Our team ventured 60 miles north of New York City, to Beacon, NY. Beacon is a town full of eateries, hiking, flea markets, and above all, art. With a handful of art galleries located on Beacon's Main Street alone, the town becomes a hub for modern art in all media. On the outskirts of Main Street sits Dia:Beacon.

About Dia

Dia was founded in New York City in 1974 by Philippa de Menil, Heiner Friedrich, and Helen Winkler to help artists achieve visionary projects that might not otherwise be realized because of scale or scope. To suggest the institution’s role in enabling such ambitions, they selected the name “Dia,” taken from the Greek word meaning “through.” Today, Dia is a constellation of sites, from the iconic permanent, site-specific artworks and installations in New York, the American West and Germany; to an exhibition program that has commissioned dozens of breakthrough projects; to the vast galleries of Dia:Beacon; and finally the programs of education and public engagement.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_single_image image="18514" img_size="full"][vc_column_text]

[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text]In May 2003, Dia Art Foundation opened Dia:Beacon on the banks of the Hudson River in Beacon, New York, in a former Nabisco box printing factory. The museum presents Dia’s collection of art from the 1960s to the present as well as special exhibitions and public programs. Since its opening, Dia:Beacon has helped transform the city of Beacon into a vibrant arts destination for visitors from the region, New York City, and beyond.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width="1/2"][vc_single_image image="18519" img_size="full" onclick="custom_link" img_link_target="_blank" link="https://www.diaart.org/"][vc_column_text]

Get To Know Juniper Owner and Founder, Shant Madjarian

Jan
14

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Shant is a dedicated man with innovative ideas, just like the Ground Control Collection that has endless technological possibilities. He usually arrives at the office early before anyone else and has been known to spend a Saturday in our lighting design studio. Between discussing new products and big ideas with product development and marketing teams, Shant jumps between the office and production to make sure everything runs smoothly.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width="1/2"][vc_single_image image="10010" img_size="full"][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][vc_column width="1/2"][vc_column_text]

WHERE ARE YOU ORIGINALLY FROM?

I’m from Montréal, Québec. Besides it being my home, Montreal is also where my parents are running a lighting manufacturing business of their own for the last 35 years.

WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO START JUNIPER? AND WHY NEW YORK?

I have a passion for creating new and better ways of doing things, sometimes even mundane things. I also have a love for design, and I believed I could make a positive impact in the field. I set up a shop in New York simply because this was and is my home. I have been a New Yorker since 2000, when I moved here to begin my career in Finance. Ultimately, I saw the potential in New York as it is the center of design, being surrounded by new ideas and technology.

HOW DID YOU TRANSITION FROM FINANCE TO LIGHTING?

I actually didn't foresee the lighting industry in my future, but I learned a lot about the business growing up. At first, I chose Finance as my career. I worked as a Financial Analyst & Investment Banker for 13 years before I impulsively launched a business in design.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width="1/2"][vc_single_image image="11457" img_size="full" onclick="custom_link" link="http://www.juniper-design.com/power-accessories/"][vc_column_text]

Ground Control Double USB Port and Ground Control Dimmer Knob in Satin Brass

[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][vc_column width="1/2"][vc_column_text]

WHAT DO YOU DO OUTSIDE OF WORK?

I’m completely in love with work, which is honestly what I tend to think and talk about even outside of work. But I do get distracted sometimes with music, art, food, and wine. But mostly the latter.

ANY FAVORITE SPOTS IN NEW YORK?

Once upon a time, I could have written a book on my favorite spots in the city. Today, I prefer sanctuary over a crowd. But The Highline is where I am most inspired, especially early in the morning. For fun, Ghost Donkey in Bowery is a great spot. In my neighborhood, I often eat at La Slowteria and Frankie's. Probably even too often.

DID YOU EXPECT JUNIPER TO BE WHERE IT IS TODAY?

Naturally, I had plans and projections when I launched the business, but they look nothing like what actually transpired. Running a business was harder and more rewarding than I had ever imagined. As always, I am pushing ahead to the next milestone, but I have learned to find time here and there to appreciate the achievements that have been made so far.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width="1/3"][vc_btn title="Explore Juniper's Lighting Awards" style="flat" shape="square" color="inverse" align="center" button_block="true" link="url:http%3A%2F%2Fwww.juniper-design.com%2Flighting-awards%2F|||"][/vc_column][vc_column width="1/3"][vc_btn title="Discover More About Juniper" style="flat" shape="square" color="inverse" align="center" button_block="true" link="url:http%3A%2F%2Fwww.juniper-design.com%2Fcompany%2F|||"][/vc_column][vc_column width="1/3"][vc_btn title="Meet The Team" style="flat" shape="square" color="inverse" align="center" button_block="true" link="url:http%3A%2F%2Fwww.juniper-design.com%2Fmeet-the-team%2F|||"][/vc_column][/vc_row]

Surface Magazine Tells the Story of Brooklyn-based Studio

Jun

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Surface Magazine has captured our story in the best light possible (see what we did there?). Juniper owner, Shant Madjarian, sits down with Surface Magazine to discuss the company's beginnings, design inspiration, and what the future holds for the Brooklyn-based manufacturing studio.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width="1/2"][vc_single_image image="8250" img_size="full"][/vc_column][vc_column width="1/2"][vc_empty_space height="64px"][vc_column_text]

Tell us about Juniper’s history.

When people ask me how Juniper came to be, I say naïveté and recklessness were important ingredients. But it was a love of design and the desire to innovate that compelled me to launch this business. That youthful pursuit of my passion and the willingness to chase the forever-moving target of a perfect product remain at the core of our company. Now, Juniper is no longer just me, but a diverse family of hardworking, passionate people who share common values and different perspectives.

What’s the driving force behind your work?

Each of our products is thoughtfully designed and meticulously engineered. Our design philosophy is based on reduction, user experience, and technological advancement. It’s not enough to create a sleek and functional product—it’s important to test boundaries and pave the way for new solutions. We use quality raw materials and assemble our designs in-house. We believe that honesty in design can be found in the details, so we obsess over them (sometimes irrationally) as we seek to solve problems. In the end, we fall in love with our products.

What does good design mean to you?

It means reducing products to their truest and simplest form, and innovating not for the sake of innovating, but to solve problems in a way that can improve our lives while reducing demands on our environment. It also means using natural materials that reflect the origin and intent of our products.

What projects do you currently have in the works?

We are implementing our Metropolis LED lighting system as the exclusive overhead lighting for the Bank of America trading floor. The space, set to be completed in August, is being designed by WeWork. We’re also working on our first outdoor lighting system, called Rail, that will debut in October. In early 2019, we will launch a magnetic track lighting system that will deliver high-performance lighting through a very low-profile, modular structure.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width="1/3"][vc_btn title="Learn More About Us" style="flat" shape="square" color="inverse" align="center" button_block="true" link="url:http%3A%2F%2Fwww.juniper-design.com%2Fcompany%2F|||"][/vc_column][vc_column width="1/3"][vc_btn title="Read Surface Magazine's Full Article" style="flat" shape="square" color="inverse" align="center" button_block="true" link="url:https%3A%2F%2Fwww.surfacemag.com%2Farticles%2Fbrooklyn-design-studio-juniper-makes-perfect-lights%2F||target:%20_blank|"][/vc_column][vc_column width="1/3"][vc_btn title="Browse Articles" style="flat" shape="square" color="inverse" align="center" button_block="true" link="url:http%3A%2F%2Fwww.juniper-design.com%2Fjournal%2F|||"][/vc_column][/vc_row]

Juniper at Industry City, Brooklyn

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text]Located in the heart of Brooklyn, New York, Juniper is surrounded by growing artistic businesses. Our manufacturing studio is part of Industry City, a flourishing ecosystem of small businesses with big ideas and the drive to succeed.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width="1/2"][vc_single_image image="2629" img_size="full"][/vc_column][vc_column width="1/2"][vc_single_image image="6655" img_size="full" alignment="center"][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text]In Industry City's latest video series, Juniper's owner and founder, Shant Madjarian, discusses the changes in the neighborhood overtime and how it directly affected Juniper as an evolving business in today's market:   When we first started at Industry City in 2014, we had only two employees. The infrastructure, particularly the streets, the loading docks, electrical power pretty much was a mess. There were very few other lighting designers, in fact, and manufacturers. The change over the last three years has been extraordinary. Physical infrastructure has improved, you can find a place to eat or relax in any of the courtyards, and there's an ecosystem of home goods, designers, and manufacturers. Most importantly for Juniper, we've grown rapidly to 15 employees and are planning to move to a larger space in Industry City. The Innovation Lab and its partners have been fantastic about helping us find local Sunset Park-based employees. Most of my workforce walks to and from work. Finding an affordable manufacturing space in New York City is not easy. But Industry City has not only been affordable but also has been a tremendous partner in our growth.   Watch Industry City's Juniper spotlight video, with an inside peek at our Brooklyn design shop and the people who bring architectural lighting to residential, commercial, and hospitality spaces worldwide.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_video link="https://vimeo.com/249886269" align="center"][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width="1/2"][vc_empty_space][vc_single_image image="6629" img_size="full"][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][vc_column width="1/2"][vc_empty_space][vc_single_image image="6631" img_size="full" alignment="center"][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width="1/2"][vc_btn title="Shop Lighting" style="flat" shape="square" color="inverse" align="center" button_block="true" link="url:http%3A%2F%2Fwww.juniper-design.com%2Fproducts%2F|||"][/vc_column][vc_column width="1/2"][vc_btn title="Read More Articles" style="flat" shape="square" color="inverse" align="center" button_block="true" link="url:http%3A%2F%2Fwww.juniper-design.com%2Fjournal%2F|||"][/vc_column][/vc_row]
