5 Upcoming Lighting Trends for 2020

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]As a lighting manufacturer focused on advanced technology, precision-machining, and made-to-fit solutions, we’ve noticed a few lighting trends that have been gaining popularity recently.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image="19580" img_size="full" alignment="center"][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text]

1. Lighting Finishes

To start, new finishes have gained some momentum. Although brass is always a popular standard, we’ve noticed a rise in matte black, satin nickel, and polished finishes. Trends seem to be pushing more toward neutral tones to blend with a space’s design in a finish that shows the fixture’s quality. With changing finish trends, it’s helpful to be hands-on with the manufacturing process to adjust our finishes to the requests of our clients.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image="12660" img_size="full" alignment="center" onclick="custom_link" link="https://www.juniper-design.com/products/thin-primaries-octagon/"][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text]

2. Lighting Shapes

Geometric shapes also seem to become a rising lighting trend. Designers and architects have gravitated toward creating shapes with light to bring a central focus to a space as a way to give a unique area of interest to the design. We’ve seen our THIN Primaries Collection used over countertops, dining spaces, and lighting installations in lobby areas.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image="8991" img_size="full" alignment="center" onclick="custom_link" link="https://www.juniper-design.com/2018/09/19/proxi-junipers-custom-lighting/"][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text]

3. Custom Light Fixtures

More and more, clients have requests for custom lighting solutions to create special design elements particularly in hospitality spaces when designers want to bring a unique personality to the space. Our engineers have designed more made-to-fit pieces for clients recently as a solution to install something completely unique.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image="3389" img_size="full" alignment="center" onclick="custom_link" link="https://www.juniper-design.com/products/the-metropolis-wall-to-wall/"][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text]

4. Modern Office Design

Fixtures that resolve existing conditions have also been on the rise, particularly in office spaces as a direct reflection of the modern workplace leaning more toward hospitality design aesthetics. As designers and architects bring in a new level of comfort and warmth to new office space designs, cold fluorescents are being replaced by wellness-focused and environmentally-friendly LED solutions. Our Metropolis Wall to Wall System has grown in popularity as clients recognize its thoughtfully-designed elements with high-output modules and custom mounting options to work with existing conditions. The system is made to fit a space’s dimensions while producing enough light output for efficient office lighting.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image="17820" img_size="full" alignment="center" onclick="custom_link" link="https://www.juniper-design.com/2019/05/21/flat-iron-loft-modern-kitchen-island-lighting/"][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text]

5. Wireless Dimming

On the technology side of lighting, Juniper has seen more requests for wireless dimming capabilities in residential spaces specifically. This is pretty common in commercial spaces to power all fixtures together easily at a larger scale, but homeowners have caught onto the convenience of pairing their lighting with wireless remotes, phones, tablets, smart home devices, and voice-activated assistants.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Juniper works with architects and designers to support these lighting trends and rising requests through flexible lighting systems that can easily adjust to the evolving market. FAQ: Choosing Modern Under-Cabinet Lighting

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Every kitchen design is different, and with that comes custom cabinetry, dimensions, materials, and countertops to consider. When choosing your modern under-cabinet lighting, it’s important to look for three things: minimal design, customizable lighting features, and modularity. Following these steps will make sure you choose the right lighting for your modern kitchen space.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_single_image image="13615" img_size="full" alignment="center" onclick="custom_link" link="https://www.juniper-design.com/products/thin-surface-mount-display-light/"][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text]

1. Minimal Design

Under-cabinet lighting is used to accent the kitchen (wait for it) under your cabinets. Usually, lighting is either inset or sits very close to the bottom of your cabinetry and shines light down toward the countertops below. The design of this lighting should be low-profile as to not distract from other show stopping elements of your modern kitchen’s design. By using high-quality materials in a low profile, the lighting will accent the luxury aesthetic without becoming demanding in the space. We recommend choosing lighting that stands off from the cabinet under 2 inches and avoiding chunky lighting installations.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_single_image image="6065" img_size="full" alignment="center" onclick="custom_link" link="https://www.juniper-design.com/products/thin-surface-mount-display-light/"][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text]

2. Customizable Lighting Features

Since every kitchen is unique, it’s important to choose lighting that is customizable to your space. To match the lighting’s color temperature to the rest of your space, choose a lighting system that has a variety of options. Usually, kitchens are equipped with color temperatures around 3000K-3500K. This white light is perfect for preparing food in a functional and clean space, while maintaining a small amount of amber hue for a comforting aesthetic. Another thing to consider is lens finishes of your linear LED lighting, specifically frosted or clear. Clear lenses help direct lighting for a more narrow beam of light. This is helpful in task areas, such as food-prep locations. However, with glossy countertops, you may face glare issues of the lighting reflecting too harshly. We recommend clear lenses for matte or semi-matte finished countertops. When it comes to glossy countertops, a frosted lens, although more diffused with a wider beam angle, still gives off the same brightness and would resolve the issue of glare.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_single_image image="16507" img_size="full" alignment="center" onclick="custom_link" link="https://www.juniper-design.com/2019/02/27/minimalist-white-kitchen-bright-designlab/"][vc_column_text]

3. Modularity

As dimensions change and cabinetry adjusts to your space, so should your lighting. Choose lighting that’s extendable and adjustable. With the ability to add and subtract length, you’ll find comfort in knowing that your cabinetry can be a custom dimension and you’ll still have the correct proportions of lighting.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width="1/2"][vc_single_image image="6234" img_size="full" onclick="custom_link" link="https://www.juniper-design.com/products/thin-surface-mount-display-light/"][/vc_column][vc_column width="1/2"][vc_column_text]

Modern Under-Cabinet Lighting

With its ½-inch diameter profile, the THIN Surface Mount Under-Cabinet Light offers minimal design with plenty of light output. Standoff options include 1.75”, and 3.5” for a low-profile lighting solution. The THIN System offers customizable options such as color temperature, lens finish, length, and the ability to join LED light segments together for custom dimensions. Juniper is able to provide corner pieces for uniquely shaped runs. The THIN Surface Mount Under-Cabinet Light installs easily to any material and LED light segments magnetically snap into mounting hardware. Since magnetic connections are made instead of hardwiring the light segments in place, segments can freely rotate a full 360° to aim lighting exactly where its needed and adjust as you use it. A variety of dimming options are available to work with wireless dimmers, or other lighting systems.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width="1/2"][vc_btn title="Browse the THIN Surface Mount Under-Cabinet Light" style="flat" shape="square" color="inverse" align="center" button_block="true" link="url:https%3A%2F%2Fwww.juniper-design.com%2Fproducts%2Fthin-surface-mount-display-light%2F|title:THIN%20Surface%20Mount%20Display%20Light||"][/vc_column][vc_column width="1/2"][vc_btn title="Read More Articles" style="flat" shape="square" color="inverse" align="center" button_block="true" link="url:https%3A%2F%2Fwww.juniper-design.com%2Fmodern-lighting-blog%2F|title:THIN%20Surface%20Mount%20Display%20Light||"][/vc_column][/vc_row]

Designer Highlight: Chris Taylor, Creative Director of Morris Adjmi

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Chris Taylor joined Morris Adjmi architects in 2012. In his role as Creative Director for Interiors, he works on many of the firm’s projects and ensures that all finished interiors are not only consistent with MA’s high design standards but are also harmoniously integrated with the entire building to produce a comprehensive, unified vision. He is particularly involved with large-scale residential and hospitality projects such as the Atlantic Plumbing buildings in Washington D.C. and the ROOST extended stay hotels. Prior to joining MA, Chris worked as an interior designer for a boutique firm in his native Sydney, Australia where he focused on conceptual design and interior detailing.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width="1/2"][vc_single_image image="17197" img_size="full" onclick="custom_link" img_link_target="_blank" link="https://www.ma.com/"][/vc_column][vc_column width="1/2"][vc_column_text]

1. What is your design background?

Studied Interior Architecture in Sydney and cut my teeth with a lot of fast-paced fashion retail and hospitality design back home before coming to NYC in 2012 to tackle larger scale residential and commercial projects with MA.

2. What are some of your favorite projects that you've worked on? Why?

The ROOST apartment hotel projects feel special because we helped create a brand from its inception. The first two properties made use of existing buildings so the brand aesthetic had to be strong enough to hold up within another building’s story. Every apartment feels unique -aimed to inspire guests and feel like a friend’s place that you’ve always wanted to stay in. The brand has since set the tone for the extended stay sector within the industry.
Our latest completed ROOST opened a few months ago at The Girard building in center city Philadelphia in an MA ground up building which is a first  – but also a dynamic project in itself with expansive, hotel-like amenities that fall somewhere between the residential and hospitality world.
We’re also in construction for a 61 room hotel out in the Rockaways – (including 7 extended stay suites). The location is a reminder of the city’s diversity – there are so many facets to New York and The Rockaways is a unique pocket where urban meets the beach…we’ve been conscious of creating spaces that resonate with the neighborhood and tell its story – the goal is that every guest feels like a local!

3. What are your favorite and least favorite design tips? Why?

Favorite design tip - don’t be afraid of color. Color in a space can be challenging but so rewarding when it’s done right. It can elevate or set a mood for a room in a second without any other pieces and I love that. Often in the work we do clients will resort to a neutral palette – it’s nice when we can find a happy medium.
Least favorite tip -I don’t always agree when a lighting designer tells me I need to light artwork…I think it depends on the piece – some work need shadow and look great in dark rooms. I don’t really think there are any design “rules” that you have to follow in general there are always exceptions…

4. How would you describe your design aesthetic?

A modern sensibility grounded in function and utility, but layered with honest material choices and lived-in warmth.

5. Why do you want to choose Juniper lighting in a possible project, and what is your favorite Juniper fixture?

Juniper’s principles for design ring true to MA’s interior studio and work – elegant restraint and obsessive about detail. The product is inherently modern but timeless which is why we love it.
Our new favorite is the outdoor Rail system - we just proposed for a  new rooftop terrace. It’s a deceptively simple fixture with loads of configurations – I love how stealth yet functional it is.

The Top 5 Materials Used in Contemporary Lighting Design in 2019

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Materiality is important, especially when it applies to lighting. As trends change and tastes develop over time, it's important to choose timeless lighting that fits your space. Above all, we recommend light fixtures with long lifespans, made of high-quality materials.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_single_image image="15907" img_size="full" alignment="center" onclick="custom_link" link="http://www.juniper-design.com/products"][vc_empty_space][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]

1. Brass

Known for its longevity and durable sustainability, brass has become a top material used in contemporary lighting design in 2019. Brass has actually been at the top of this list for a few years now, but in 2019, new brass finishes are rising in popularity. Brass requires minimal upkeep and cleaning needs, with environmentally friendly recyclability. Our THIN System is known for it's minimal, yet luxurious brass tubing in various finishes.
[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_single_image image="14618" img_size="full" alignment="center" onclick="custom_link" link="http://www.juniper-design.com/thin-modular-lighting-system/"][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text]

2. Glass

Perhaps one of the most common materials in lighting, glass emphasizes luxury and crystal-like extravagance. With such versatility, glass can be textured or smooth, transparent or opaque, colored or clear. Glass lighting is easy to clean and displays a beautifully diffused aura.

3. Aluminum

Aluminum is best used for outdoor lighting and high-output fixtures, which is why this material made our top 5 list of contemporary lighting materials for 2019. As outdoor lighting becomes more curated and developed in the high-end design world, like our Rail Outdoor Lighting System, aluminum's demand continues to rise. Aluminum can be anodized for outdoor durability and waterproofing. Aluminum is also a fantastic heat absorber for high-output light fixtures, like the Metropolis Collection. Naturally drawing heat out of the core of the fixture, aluminum serves as the best vehicle in keeping fixtures at manageable temperatures.
[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_single_image image="10579" img_size="full" alignment="center" onclick="custom_link" link="http://www.juniper-design.com/products/rail-outdoor-lighting-system/"][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text]

 4. Fabric

As one of this list's most wide-ranging and versatile materials, using fabric with lighting is becoming undeniably popular. As markets begin integrating sound-proofing capabilities with lighting, fabric naturally serves as the variable in color palette. By utilizing high textures, and bright colors and patterns, fabric can be a playful solution to designs.

5. Acrylic

Acrylic sometimes gets a bad wrap as a cheap material, however it's important to note there is a whole range of quality in acrylic out there. High-quality acrylic, such as the Evonik Satinice Acrylic used to product the Love Me Not Pendant, is used to create porcelain-like finishes, with a much higher flexibility than ceramic material. Acrylic's durability and lightweight body even tops glass as a diffuser of light. Offering a delicate softness with moldable and durable attributes, frosted acrylic becomes a luxurious material for lighting.

Designer Highlight: Founder, Alana Fletcher of Alana Fletcher Interiors

[vc_row][vc_column width="1/2"][vc_single_image image="16220" img_size="full" alignment="center" onclick="custom_link" img_link_target="_blank" link="https://www.alanafletcher.ca/"][vc_column_text]

Alana Fletcher, Founder of Alana Fletcher Interiors

[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][vc_column width="1/2"][vc_column_text]Alana Fletcher Interiors was founded by Alana Fletcher herself, bringing over 10 years of experience in the design industry. The firm in Toronto, Canada is equipped with a team of professionals who specialize in luxury commercial and residential spaces. We interviewed Fletcher to learn how she began her journey and discover her taste in remodeling spaces.

How did you start in the design industry?

My background is in fashion and print production. I initially produced magazine and catalog spreads for various designers and publications, focusing on interiors. It was only when I had my second baby that I shifted over to interiors (almost 13 years ago!). Being immersed in these facets of bringing ads to life was the stepping stone I needed to direct me to the path of where I am today—from overseeing the design and build of the sets, propping, and budgeting. Today, my firm provides design services for large scale residences, offices, and retail spaces.

What is your design aesthetic?

My design aesthetic favors clean lines and modern spaces that are liveable and warm. Our interiors are timeless, solution-based designs.

Do you have any favorite projects you've worked on?

Each design opportunity holds a special place in my heart, but if I had to single out a specific project, I'd point you toward our Dunbar project. The incredible trust the clients had in our design direction and process elevated the entire experience for me. Ultimately, I believe it elevated the final outcome as well. The whole team was exceptional![/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_gallery interval="3" images="16240,16241,16238,16239" img_size="full" onclick=""][vc_column_text]

What are your favorite and least favorite design tips?

A home is almost everyone's most substantial investment, and the way the budget is allocated during a build or renovation should provide them with an interior that is functional. Be hardworking and thorough during planning and selecting finishes. My number one tip would be to select finishes that will stand the test of time. Next, always choose solid core doors. Always. Lastly, I recommend painting your walls and ceiling in the same shade for a more cohesive, grand look. I've used this application with both dark and light colors and it works no matter the shade!

Why do you trust Juniper light fixtures in your projects?

Juniper provided us with the perfect solution when we were struggling to find a very minimal profile pendant that extended beyond a typical pendant length for a contemporary kitchen renovation. The versatility of the THIN Modular Lighting System was perfect in every way. It highlighted the interior architecture of the room and did not interfere with the views outside of the house. We also recently saw the Love Me Not on display at Hollace Cluny, a retailer in Toronto, and we were completely smitten![/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_gallery interval="3" images="14094,14108,14095,14111" img_size="full" onclick="custom_link" custom_links="#E-8_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"][vc_column_text]

5 Design Ideas for Black and White Modern Kitchens

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Explore a muted tone for your kitchen to keep it clean, simple, and minimal. Black and white are becoming more popular in modern spaces for their aesthetically pleasing appearances when accentuated properly. Bold and sophisticated, these contemporary design ideas are helpful when revamping a black and white kitchen.

1. Match or Contrast your Countertop with your Backsplash

Decide on a backsplash for your black and white kitchen after selecting the countertop's finish. This will give you a clearer vision, whether you would prefer a continuous-looking space by matching the material of the backsplash with the surface, or a dramatic flair that stands out when contrasting these elements.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image="15533" img_size="full" alignment="center" onclick="custom_link" img_link_target="_blank" link="https://www.us.kohler.com/us/"][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]

2. Opt for a Muted Marble Surface

A black marble surface with white veins is a subtle way to add a black and white tone in your kitchen without overdoing it. Cambria manufactures natural quartz surfaces and has a collection of elegant marble designs that capture guests when gathering in a space.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image="15532" img_size="full" alignment="center" onclick="custom_link" img_link_target="_blank" link="https://www.cambriausa.com/"][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]

3. Choose a Minimal Light Fixture in a Black Finish

A fixture with an all-black profile creates a clean aesthetic, especially in a monochromatic kitchen. We recommend browsing our THIN Multiples Triad to install above the kitchen island or our THIN Surface Mount Display Light as under-cabinet lighting. Both of these designs are part of the THIN Modular Lighting System, encapsulating brass light fixtures in Black Oxide.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image="15485" img_size="full" alignment="center" onclick="custom_link" link="http://www.juniper-design.com/products/thin-surface-mount-display-light/"][vc_column_text]

4. Patterned Bone China Dinnerware

Extend your colorway to your dinnerware for a cohesive design that sets the mood during mealtime. This black and white plate with 24-carat gold rims from Bethan Gray merges modern and classic altogether for a luxurious table setting.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image="15527" img_size="full" alignment="center" onclick="custom_link" img_link_target="_blank" link="https://bethangray.com/"][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]

5. Incorporate Natural Elements Through Furniture

Avoid turning a black and white kitchen into a sterile space by including other architectural elements. Wood is an example of a material that can provide warmth and will help guests feel more comfortable. Complement your bar height kitchen island with Iskos-Berlin's Fiber Bar Stools that are accentuated by lacquered oak wood.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image="15535" img_size="full" alignment="center" onclick="custom_link" img_link_target="_blank" link="https://muuto.com/"][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width="1/3"][vc_btn title="View All Lighting Designs" style="flat" shape="square" color="inverse" align="center" button_block="true" link="url:http%3A%2F%2Fwww.juniper-design.com%2Fproducts%2F|||"][/vc_column][vc_column width="1/3"][vc_btn title="Discover Juniper's Newest Design Projects" style="flat" shape="square" color="inverse" align="center" button_block="true" link="url:http%3A%2F%2Fwww.juniper-design.com%2Fprojects%2F|||"][/vc_column][vc_column width="1/3"][vc_btn title="Read More Articles" style="flat" shape="square" color="inverse" align="center" button_block="true" link="url:http%3A%2F%2Fwww.juniper-design.com%2Fmodern-lighting-blog%2F|||"][/vc_column][/vc_row]

3 Recommended Lighting Designs For Contemporary Kitchen Lighting

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Being one of the busiest rooms in a residential space, kitchens need ample lighting to guarantee a comfortable space for meal preps and entertaining guests. From under-cabinet to kitchen island lighting, read further to discover fixures to install as contemporary kitchen lighting when building or remodeling a space.

1. Brass Under-Cabinet Lighting

Under-cabinet lighting, being a practical installation for productive tasks, is a contemporary kitchen lighting solution that enhances work efficiency. When tracing under-cabinets, eyes are also naturally drawn to its linear silhouette. Consider fixtures with materials like brass for added luxurious value.

What we Recommend:

To achieve long symmetrical under-cabinet lighting, the THIN Surface Mount Display Light features magnetic ends so users are able to seamlessly connect segments for endless lengths.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width="1/2"][vc_single_image image="13628" img_size="full" alignment="center" onclick="custom_link" link="http://www.juniper-design.com/products/thin-surface-mount-display-light/"][vc_empty_space][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][vc_column width="1/2"][vc_single_image image="14679" img_size="full" alignment="center" onclick="custom_link" link="http://www.juniper-design.com/products/thin-surface-mount-display-light/"][vc_column_text]

2. Clustered Linear Kitchen Island Lighting

Pendant lighting is popular above kitchen islands due to their elaborate designs that make a statement in modern spaces. Defy the norm and opt for a minimal suspended fixture instead, which delivers a customized lighting experience while adding a contemporary character to your space.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height="20px"][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text]

What we Recommend:

Stemming from the THIN Multiples Collection, the THIN Multiples Triad features three rotatable segments that exude abundant illumination. Users can reposition lighting directly on the counter for tasks or other preferred directions for ambiance.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width="1/2"][vc_single_image image="14685" img_size="full" alignment="center" onclick="custom_link" link="http://www.juniper-design.com/products/thin-multiples-triad/"][vc_column_text]

3. Minimal Suspended Linear Lighting

Modern spaces nowadays are defined by straight lines and designs that indicate minimalism. Reflect this characteristic in fixtures with simplistic design to keep kitchens looking crisp and clean. We suggest a configuration that forms a single line with a sleek profile.

What we Recommend:

The THIN Suspension, characterized by its 1/2-inch diameter segments, is an ideal fixture to avoid obstruction. It can be magnetically connected for extensive runs due to its modularity. Segments can be rotated on-site to adjust the fixture's illumination from task lighting to ambient lighting.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width="1/2"][vc_single_image image="14697" img_size="full" alignment="center" onclick="custom_link" link="http://www.juniper-design.com/products/thin-suspension/"][vc_column_text]

5 Reasons to Choose Brass Hardware

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Commonly mistaken for gold for their similar appearance, brass is actually an alloy with properties that make it ideal for architectural elements found in mid-century modern spaces. At Juniper, we assemble select fixtures using solid brass tubing for reasons that go beyond its elegant physical attributes.

1. Brass Does Not Tarnish

Brass, being an alloy of copper and zinc, does not rust, as this only forms in iron-based metals. However, like other natural metals, brass will patina over time. We protect our brass THIN Modular Lighting System with a mild matte lacquer to delay its discoloration and to protect it from humid exposures and natural oils.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_single_image image="14300" img_size="full" alignment="center" onclick="custom_link" link="http://www.juniper-design.com/2018/01/19/new-york-times-assemblage-zen-soho-house/"][vc_column_text]

2. Brass Has Antimicrobial Properties

Possessing natural antibacterial properties that kill harmful microbes, brass is a fitting hardware solution for spaces in food or medical industries. Each time brass hardware is held, its helpful properties are activated by sweat.

3. Brass Offers Luxurious Vintage Aesthetics

We deliver high-quality products to all of our clients, like our brass fixtures from the THIN System. This metal finish can be too striking when used impulsively, therefore, we recommend distributing hints of brass within the space to create a simple yet stunning impression. A way to subtly incorporate brass in a contemporary space is to install Ground Control power accessories on furniture.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_single_image image="14355" img_size="full" alignment="center" onclick="custom_link" link="http://www.juniper-design.com/products/ground-control-toggle-switch/"][vc_column_text]

4. Brass Requires Less Upkeep

All brass components will need occasional cleaning to remove environment traces, but it does not need any special care. Simply wipe off dust with a damp cloth and your hardware may look brand new once again. Get more details on our cleaning instructions for brass fixtures.

5. Brass is Recyclable and Sustainable

With the existence of different types of materials, not all brass hardware can be recycled. We offer our brass fixtures that contribute to the green movement and are sustainable due to the absence of toxic materials. These also hold value, allowing it to be sold to some scrap metal recycling yards.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_single_image image="14301" img_size="full" alignment="center" onclick="custom_link" link="http://www.juniper-design.com/products/thin-suspension/"][vc_column_text]

5 Common Mistakes When Choosing Light Fixtures

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Lighting comes in diverse forms and sizes that it almost feels impossible to end up with the right fixture that suits your space. We understand this difficulty, therefore, we rounded up five common mistakes to avoid so you can narrow down your options.

1. Prioritizing Design Over Purpose

While design is a big factor, one of the most common mistakes is disregarding function and impulsively buying a fixture for decorative purposes only. We recommend exploring our THIN Modular Lighting System that exemplifies both form and function. It encapsulates a collection of minimal lighting that stays true to its purpose.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_single_image image="9406" img_size="full" alignment="center" onclick="custom_link" link="http://www.juniper-design.com/products/thin-surface-mount-display-light/"][vc_column_text]

2. Using One Fixture as the Only Light Source

Although the brightness of a space depends its foot-candles and a fixture's lumens, a single fixture is normally not sufficient enough to illuminate an entire space. Think in layers instead, and utilize your main source as a foundation to translate a dull space into a well-lit space. Discover effortless lighting solutions such as the Axis X with four perpendicular light arrays and the Metropolis Suspension with lumens of up to 8,200LM.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_single_image image="8907" img_size="full" alignment="center" onclick="custom_link" link="http://www.juniper-design.com/products/axis-x/"][vc_column_text]

3. Overlooking Lighting Temperatures & CRI

The wrong color temperature can make your space feel uninspiring and generally not pleasing to look at, while poor Color-Rendering Index (CRI) can make an object's color look inaccurate under a light source. Discover the right lighting temperature and CRI for any space here.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_single_image image="10925" img_size="full" alignment="center" onclick="custom_link" link="http://www.juniper-design.com/products/thin-suspension/"][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text]

4. Neglecting dimmers

Some would feel that dimmers only add excess cost, however, these power accessories can actually save your fixture’s lifespan and your electric bill in the long run. Our Ground Control Dimmers allow you to easily control your lighting consumption and adjust your space’s atmosphere, while displaying luxurious aesthetics with its brass finish.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_single_image image="7103" img_size="full" alignment="center" onclick="custom_link" link="http://www.juniper-design.com/power-accessories/"][vc_column_text]

5. Failing to consider your space's color

Dominant colors in any space can dictate what metal finish can complement it. We offer all of our products in varied luxurious finishes, so users can have the option to embellish their space with their choice of color.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_single_image image="12752" img_size="full" alignment="center" onclick="custom_link" link="http://www.juniper-design.com/products/the-metropolis-wall-sconce/"][vc_column_text]
