FAQ: What is Color-Rendering Index (CRI) and Why is it Important?

THIN Surface Mount Picture Light in Satin Brass

[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][vc_column width="1/2"][vc_column_text]When browsing light fixtures for residential, hospitality, or commercial spaces, considering excellent light quality is a must. You can determine this by choosing a fixture with a high Color-Rendering Index. We recommend between 90 to 100 for best results.

Color-Rendering Index Definition

Color-Rendering Index, commonly called CRI, measures the accuracy of a color's appearance when displayed under a light source. The higher the CRI, the more accurately it translates a color.

Why the Right CRI Matters

Besides installing lighting to illuminate dull spaces, it is also utilized for colors to pop and to help users distinguish hues. There are various applications that will require light fixtures to have impeccably high CRI to retain colors' fidelity, especially in retail displays, restaurants, and art galleries. Light fixtures with a low CRI can warp colors, make food appear unappetizing, and change an artwork's palette.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]

Recommended CRI

80 CRI can be suitable for many applications, but we would recommend choosing at least 90 CRI, the standard rating for all of our light fixtures, to achieve the best color display. Juniper also offers a 95 CRI option for those as passionate as we are about lighting. Contact our sales team for more questions.

0-55 CRI

(Poor)

We don’t recommend using lighting with this low of a CRI rating.

60-85 CRI (Good) Most LED lighting falls in this range. It’s good, but could be better.

90-100 CRI

(Excellent)

Juniper fixtures have a standard 90 CRI rating for excellent color accuracy and quality.

FAQ: How Do I Choose the Right Power Supply for my Light Fixture?

Jan
28

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Behind any low voltage light fixture is a power supply that provides energy for proper illumination. A power supply safely converts power to be compatible with low wattage fixtures without overloading the configuration. Follow our 5 steps to help you choose the right power supply for your fixture.

1. Determine Your Power Supply's Location

The location will depend upon your space's electrical setup. A remote power supply is a popular choice for fixtures that do not require direct wiring to a junction box. Users can install this separately from the fixture (but no further than 50 feet away) such as in a cabinet, attic, or utility room. A local power supply, housed in a canopy, is typically used when you have a junction box and/or cannot run new low voltage wiring. Learn more about the differences of these power supplies.

2. Find Out Your Location's Voltage

Receptacles in countries worldwide vary since each location has their designated voltage. Discover the exact voltage of your location using our global voltage map below.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image="10291" img_size="full" alignment="center" onclick="custom_link" link="http://www.juniper-design.com/2018/09/12/voltage-map/"][vc_column_text]

Global Voltage Map

[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]

3. Calculate Your Fixture's Total Wattage

The total wattage of the light fixture should be at least 10% less under the wattage of the power supply. In other words, do not push beyond a power supply's maximum capacity. This can cause your fixture to overload. Be sure to add wattage together when powering multiples fixtures using the same power supply. Wattage for each fixture can be found on its product page, or you can contact us for help.

4. Select your Dimming Option

The most popular dimming option is 2-wire/Forward Phase/Triac dimming due to its smooth performance. The lifespan of an LED can reach up to 50,000 hours or 15 years when installing fixtures on a dimmer. 0-10V, an output range that controls dimming from 1V (lowest dimming level) up to 10V (highest light output), allows LED fixtures to function using less energy while also providing dimming capabilities. Lastly, 3-wire allows for a continuous, flicker-free dimming performance down to 1% without drop out or pop on but will require a third line voltage wire.

5. Consult with a Licensed Electrician

We encourage that you consult with a licensed electrician to confirm the right power supply for your light fixture or any electrical needs as a safety protocol. Once you've cleared your space's requirements, you can contact our sales team for questions about our fixtures and compatibility.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image="10263" img_size="full" alignment="center" onclick="custom_link" link="http://www.juniper-design.com/2018/12/27/lenox-new-jersey-lobby/"][vc_column_text]

FAQ: Do You Have An Outdoor Fixture?

Jan

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Juniper assembles linear, high-output, and elegant fixtures that adorn interior spaces. But what about outdoor spaces? Discover the Rail to know more about Juniper’s first outdoor lighting system.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width="1/2"][vc_single_image image="12325" img_size="full" onclick="custom_link" link="http://www.juniper-design.com/products/rail-outdoor-lighting-system"][/vc_column][vc_column width="1/2"][vc_single_image image="12854" img_size="full" onclick="custom_link" link="http://www.juniper-design.com/products/rail-outdoor-lighting-system"][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text]

THE RAIL

The Rail is an outdoor fixture that mirrors the THIN Modular Lighting System‘s functional features. It exhibits a linear profile, distinguished by its aluminum body. This characteristic conceals the Rail from any damage brought by natural elements. It is also designed as a water-resistant outdoor fixture to complete its sturdy quality.   With a rotatable 1/2-inch light segment, the Rail's square body can be rotated 320°. Repositioning the segment provides a more customized lighting experience because users can easily adjust direct and indirect lighting on-site. Because this outdoor fixture is inspired from the THIN System, our team developed it to have magnetic joints that allow users to create elongated runs.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width="1/2"][vc_single_image image="12072" img_size="full" onclick="custom_link" link="http://www.juniper-design.com/products/rail-outdoor-lighting-system"][vc_column_text]

FAQ: Is the THIN Suspension Bright Enough for my Space?

Dec
25

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Having a slim linear profile, the THIN Suspension is often questioned for its capacity to illuminate a room. We’re here to tell you more about our THIN Suspension and what you should look for in fixtures to execute your lighting plans for any space.

About the THIN Suspension

The THIN Suspension is a slender lighting solution with a 1/2-inch LED segment that embodies a minimal profile. It comes from our large collection of modular linear fixtures, the THIN Lighting System, designed by Peter Bristol. This architectural lighting can interconnect its segments for extensive runs. It is further elevated by its rotatable segment that users can individually rotate a full 360°.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_single_image image="8669" img_size="full" alignment="center" onclick="custom_link" link="http://www.juniper-design.com/products/thin-suspension/"][vc_column_text]

[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width="1/2"][vc_column_text]

Brightness of the THIN Suspension

Determining the brightness of your fixture is measured by its lumens. The THIN Suspension exudes a dimmable output of up to 920LM. For an ultra-slim profile, this lumen count illuminates high-output lighting. However, the brightness needed in a room still varies. It has to be precisely calculated and you can do this by figuring out the square footage of your space. Multiply this by its recommend foot-candle to be guided accordingly. Refer to our chart.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][vc_column width="1/2"][vc_column_text]

Recommended LED Lighting Solution

While the THIN Suspension casts magnificent output on its own, we still recommend that you carefully design your lighting plan in layers. Combine various fixtures in one room with a cohesive design to create a comfortable space. We also highly suggest that you interconnect THIN Suspensions to multiply its lumens for brighter illumination. However, if you would like to multiply LED segments without increasing the fixture's length, THIN Multiples Dyad, Triad, and Tetrad fixtures provide higher lumen output. Juniper offers a range of high-quality lighting products that can adorn all residential, commercial, and hospitality spaces. FAQ: Is A Dimmer Necessary For My LED?

Nov
09

[vc_row][vc_column width="1/2"][vc_single_image image="7104" img_size="full"][vc_column_text]

Ground Control Dimmers: Dial (left) & Knob (right)

[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width="1/2"][vc_column_text]With developing LED technology, most fixtures are now compatible with dimmers. It brings a range of benefits that a light switch alone cannot provide. Although dimmers are not necessary for fixtures to operate, it is still an important add-on to LED lamping.

1. Saves Energy

Without dimmers, users are left with the option to use lighting's full capacity, when only a portion of it is needed. Adding a dimmer to your fixtures gives you full control over energy consumption and allows you to adjust the intensity. Decreasing a fixture's brightness means it is illuminated by lower wattage, thus, using lesser energy.

2. Extends LED'S Life

LED's generally last for up to 50,000 hours or 15 years, but it turns stale with age when used at its maximum level daily. An LED's lifespan is drastically reduced once excessive heat and maximum output overworks the fixture. Invest in a dimmer to help reduce the heat output from an LED, which in turn, will extend a fixture's lifespan.

3. Adjusts To Your Mood

A dimmer is a helpful tool to make your fixture multi-purpose. With the capability to adjust brightness, you can use your LED lamping for productive tasks or soften the output when you want to loosen up. This saves you from purchasing a multitude of fixtures just to get the proper lighting for your space.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text]

RECOMMENDED MODERN DIMMERS

To get the most out of your fixture, we recommend pairing it with our furniture-mounted Ground Control Dimmers. These modern click-stop dimmers seize a satisfying weight and can embellish surfaces, panels, and desktops. Compatible with all Juniper fixtures, the Ground Control Dimmers exemplify luxurious aesthetics from its dazzling brass material. It is available in two styles: the Dimmer Dial with a broad circular brass plate atop with ridged handle and the Dimmer Knob with a knurled texture.   We also recommend upgrading to Lutron Dimmers, ideal for wall-inset dimming. Available in 0-10V and 2-Wire dimming options, this power accessory is compatible with all of our standard fixtures and Lutron Remote Power Supply. Please contact a licensed electrician or our sales team to check compatibility before purchasing.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width="1/2"][vc_btn title="Browse Ground Control Collection" style="flat" shape="square" color="inverse" align="center" button_block="true" link="url:http%3A%2F%2Fwww.juniper-design.com%2Fpower-accessories%2F|||"][/vc_column][vc_column width="1/2"][vc_btn title="Read More FAQ" style="flat" shape="square" color="inverse" align="center" button_block="true" link="url:http%3A%2F%2Fwww.juniper-design.com%2Ffrequently-asked-questions%2F|||"][/vc_column][/vc_row]
