Shant Madjarian launched Juniper in 2011, following a 13-year career in banking and finance. Entrepreneurial by nature and motivated by a growing movement towards experience design and local manufacturing, Madjarian set out to develop a collection of contemporary lighting that would together perform and inspire. Juniper designs, develops and manufactures its collection of innovative architectural lighting and accessories from its new factory in Southington, CT, where the studio collaborates with designers, architects, suppliers and buyers from across the globe.
Prior to launching Juniper, Madjarian held a Vice President position in the Credit Suisse Mergers & Acquisitions department, in which he consulted corporate clients on operating performance measurement and economic value creation. Madjarian’s career began as an economic researcher for the Bank Credit Analyst and later as an Equity Analyst at Deutsche Bank in New York.
Madjarian holds a Master’s degree in Economics and an Honors undergraduate degree in Economics and Finance both from McGill University. Additionally, he is an active member of Yale School of Architecture’s mentorship program.
Madjarian grew up in Montreal, Canada where he worked summers at his family’s custom lighting factory. It was also in Montreal where he first developed his passions for food, art and design.
VP Relationship Management
Mel Saenz has been a member of the New York architectural community for more than 15 years, and has focused her career around developing strategic sales and marketing initiatives while fostering long-term relationships with architects, designers, contractors and specifiers.
A native of Fort Worth, Texas, Mel moved to New York City in 2006 and has since honed a holistic approach to client management, which emphasizes a personalized, brand-centric approach to architectural sales. Mel joined Juniper in 2016 as Director of Sales and Business Development, leading global sales initiatives. She has served as the company’s Vice President of Relationship Management since 2019, continuing her focus on promoting a hand-ons approach to client relationships, which departs from traditional models to organically integrate the sales process into early concept development phases. She also serves as brand ambassador, leading initiatives to promote Juniper’s identity as it has grown from a burgeoning pioneer of the Brooklyn lighting scene to full-fledged American architectural lighting manufacturer, with its headquarters and factory now based in Southington, CT.
Prior to joining the Juniper team, she worked for Bisazza, where she helped create the luxury tile brand’s first architectural program focused on client relationships and volume appointment capacity. She spent the next 6 years at renowned mosaic tile and stone brand Nemo Tile & Stone, and was responsible for leading nation-wide A&D sales initiatives as Department Director.
Mel is a committee member with IIDA (NYC) and the karaoke queen of NYC.
Ana Granados has made business development and brand building for Spanish (design) companies the focus of her career. Moving to NYC in 2006 with the Trade Commission of Spain as a market analyst, Ana has since worked for different Spanish manufacturers in the US.
Earning a Law Degree from the Granada University in Spain, she also studied in KU Leuven (Belgium) and Rennes (Frances). Her International career started in Brussels working for the European Union. She continued her education with a Masters in International Business Development in Madrid, before moving to the US.
Since 2015 Ana has worked for Cosentino, now leading the hospitality division for North America. Cosentino is the largest global manufacturer of hard surfaces for the architectural and design community.
Ana is an avid traveler and has a passion for languages, art, architecture, theater and New York City.
Rodolfo Agrella joins Juniper as Creative Director, bringing his experience in developing a portfolio of highly diverse, award winning products, campaigns, and immersive spaces. Born and raised in Caracas, Venezuela, Agrella is known for infusing the American and international design landscapes with bold, sensual shapes, powerful color and innovative materiality-a signature of his modern, tropic-inflected lexicon. Previous collaborators include Silverspot Cinemas, WeWork, and Koziol, with whom he produced Shadow, a service set that was awarded the prestigious German Design Award 2015 with a Special Mention. In 2019 Agrella is chosen to be part of Wanted Design’s Transatlantic Creative Exchange, a collaborative design platform between France and the United States. He was subsequently appointed Wanted Design Manhattan’s Exhibition Designer, and led the visual merger between America’s largest trade shows, ICFF and WantedDesign. He graduated with honors from the Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism of the Universidad Central de Venezuela and completed part of his degree abroad, at the Politecnico di Milano. Agrella is passionate about the intersection of technological innovation, materiality, and a playful sensibility, and will oversee Juniper’s expansion in these areas.
